What:

While providing education and learning opportunities, Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) equine faculty have found trauma as a barrier for people and communities. In the heart of North Dakota, on the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara (MHA) Nation, NHSC offers a unique equine studies program that infuses principles of horsemanship and equine-assisted services with a trauma-focused lens. This presentation will explain the connection between horses and healing, and how NHSC's equine-assisted services program is serving diverse populations. The presenters will share about historical trauma in the MHA Nation; the scientific principles behind horses and healing; and the current research they are doing with North Dakota State University (NDSU).
