Minnesota Public Health Association

Since 1907, MPHA has been dedicated to creating a healthier Minnesota through effective public health practice and engaged citizens.

MPHA Governing Council is made up of six elected officers, six elected at‑large members, one member from each of the four standing committees, and two student representatives. Any individual member, student/retired or sustaining member may hold office or serve as a member of the Governing Council.

Members of the Governing Council are constant ambassadors and proponents of MPHA. They ensure that the mission and vision of the organization moves forward through leadership and service.

President, Elizabeth Moe

What is your favorite part of being in public health?

I love looking at the whole health system, with a focus on public health, to find the leverage points that will make the biggest difference in helping people live their healthiest lives.

What is your goal as MPHA President this year?

Impact, Membership and Resources. I want to strengthen the impact of MPHA, to deepen inclusion and engagement of new member perspectives and populations, and to create multiple, resilient streams of revenue to support our work.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?

I love connecting with members of MPHA online and in person.

President - Elect, Ellen Saliares

What is your favorite part of being in public health?

The people! I am always learning and being inspired by my fellow public health professionals, and motivated by the people in my community.

What is your goal/hoping to learn as MPHA President-elect this year?

My goal is to prepare as much as I can to be President the following year. I know I will learn a lot from Liz Moe, our current President, the Past Presidents and other MPHA leaders.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?

My favorite thing about Minnesota is when it's early spring, there is more daylight and it's even a little warmer, and you and everyone around you can't help feeling the momentum of the changing season pulling you away from winter and towards summer.

Affiliate Representative to APHA, Kristin Moore

What is your favorite part of being in public health?

I love that public health is a team sport! We deal with such large, complex problems that require us to work together as teams. When we do it well and listen to diverse sets of voices, we can create real and meaningful changes that impact and improve people's health for the better.

What is your goal/hoping to learn as MPHA's affiliate representative to APHA this year?

I'm excited to learn from other public health organizations within APHA and bring their lessons back to Minnesota. I hope that by helping to create connections and conversations we can streamline our work and create an even larger impact through our work.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?

I was away from Minnesota for about 5 years and I was most surprised that I missed getting to experience all four seasons. But my absolute favorite thing about Minnesota is that my family is here.
