Public health in the age of deception: Confronting the misinformation crisis

APHA's National Public Health Week Forum will take place both online and in person on Monday, April 6 from 1-3 p.m. CT at 800 I St NW, Washington, DC 20001.

Join us as we dig into what’s driving the problem of misinformation in public health — and what we can do about it.

We will explore practical, evidence-based strategies for cutting through the noise, strengthening clear and transparent communication and helping communities spot credible information. Leading experts will share lessons from recent successes, the importance of cross-sector partnerships and how to prepare today’s workforce to respond effectively in real time.

[Partner Event] NRHA/Connected Care for Older Adults CHWs (April 09, 2026)

The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) and the Connected Care for Older Adults (CCOA) program team are holding a webinar April 9 with four additional organizations that collaborate with Community Health Workers (CHWs) to provide age-friendly care to rural older adults.

The Connected Care for Older Adults program is an innovative model that works with CHWs in partnership with primary care providers to improve care for frail older adults in rural areas. Through Connected Care, CHWs trained in Age-Friendly Health Systems principles conduct a series of home visits with patients and families and implement Connected Care protocols based on the 4Ms Framework.

During the webinar, representatives from each organization will describe how their various programs are training CHWs and linking them to rural primary care practices to enhance the care provided to older adults. Presenters include:

The Minnesota Public Health Association (MPHA)’s Annual Conference will be held on April 13 - 14, 2026 in-person at the Atwood Memorial Center, at St. Cloud State University in collaboration with the Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance. The conference runs:

Monday, April 13, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Tuesday, April 14, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

A virtual component for attendees to view keynote, plenary, and concurrent sessions is available. Virtual participation links will be emailed to virtual attendees prior to the conference.

Application will be made for public health nursing, social work, and CHES/MCHES/CPH continuing education credits.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

Registrations may be canceled and a refund issued, transferred to another attendee, or donated to the MPHA Scholarship Fund, if the request is received in writing to admin@mpha.net by April 6, 2026.

You may also change between an in-person and virtual registration until April 6, 2026 and will be billed for any price difference. After April 6, 2026, no refunds will be issued.

Please note memberships included with conference registrations and donations that have been charged are nonrefundable.

Participation Policy:

The hybrid conference will be held in-person at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN and virtually. Keynote and concurrent sessions will be recorded and photos will be taken at the conference. By attending this event, you acknowledge these activities and grant MPHA permission to use your participation for Association publications, website, and marketing materials. You waive all claims against MPHA for any liability resulting from these uses.

It's time to start planning for MPHA's signature event, our Annual Conference! The conference will be held in late spring 2026, at a location in Minnesota to be determined by the committee.

The planning committee meets every other Wednesdays from 12-1 pm CT on Zoom.

As a committee member, you will have the opportunity to help with a range of planning responsibilities, from program content to promotions, Time commitments vary, but are approximately 2 hours/month for committee meetings during mid-day, with a small amount of additional time based on specific volunteer tasks. All are welcome and no prior experience is necessary.

Meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Currently all meetings are virtual. Meetings are open to MPHA members and non-members who want to learn more and take action on advancing health equity in Minnesota.

[Members-Only] Earth Day Cleanup with Friends of the Mississippi River (April 18, 2026)

Join us at the Annual River Gorge Earth Day cleanup
with Friends of the Mississippi River

Taking place just off of West River Parkway, this cleanup is an Earth Day tradition in the Minneapolis River Gorge, part of a citywide cleanup effort organized by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. People come from throughout the local river corridor, neighborhoods and metro area — individuals, families, small churches, corporate and student or scout groups — to celebrate Earth Day and contribute to the health and vitality of the Mississippi River. All are welcome! This family-friendly event provides an excellent opportunity to get outside and work together to help improve this beloved area. We've returned to this site year after year and have noticed a dramatic improvement in the area thanks to dedicated volunteers like you.

Longfellow Community Council, the local neighborhood group, supports this event. Longfellow area residents are encouraged to participate! The event is also part of the Gorge Stewards program, which actively engages citizens throughout the Twin Cities in the stewardship of the national treasure that is the Mississippi River Gorge.

To participate:

1) Please register so we know to look for you.

2) Our group will meet up at East 44th Street & West River Parkway. FMR staff will get you signed in and provide all the supplies. Feel free to wear your own gloves if you have them. We recommend water-resistant, sturdy shoes, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and dressing in layers for the weather. There's limited parking near the check-in site, but ample free on-street parking in the residential neighborhood near the river.
